Obituary of Beverly E. Blanchard

Please share a memory of Beverly to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Beverly Evans Blanchard, 86, of Marcellus, died April 8, 2018 after a lengthy illness. She was the widow of Douglas J. Blanchard. They shared 60 years of marriage before his death in 2015. Born in Syracuse to Flora and Thomas Evans, she graduated from Summit (NJ) High School and St. Lawrence University. Bev and Doug were devoted to each other, and their four children – Thomas, David, William, and Susan (Baum). That same dedication was extended to their 8 grandchildren, generations of golden retrievers and stray cats in search of a home. Beverly was a natural caregiver, and she was generous with that gift. Friends, neighbors, elders from church, children she tutored – all experienced something of her unconditional compassion. Beverly was an avid reader- drawn to the work of naturalists and scientists, poets and theologians. Beverly was an active correspondent – filling mailboxes with notes of gratitude and care. Beverly had an artistic flair – with simplicity as her trademark. Some of her happiest days were spent at the family cottage on Charleston Lake, in Ontario, where the sight of the loons, or a full moon reflected on the water, never failed to fill her with wonder. She is survived by her sister, Rhea Reynolds, of Cooperstown; her sons Thomas (Susan), David, William (Tammy), and daughter Susan Baum (Eric), and their children. The family is grateful to the many caregivers who kept Mom comfortable through her illness. A celebration of her life is planned for later this Spring. You can best honor her life by extending unexpected kindnesses that will ease the lives of others.
