Obituary of Jean Barry

Jean M. Barry, 81, of Baldwinsville, NY (formerly of Watertown, NY), passed on to everlasting peace August 25, 2017. Born on May 28, 1936, in Providence, RI, she was the daughter of the late James and Mary Ann McDermott McGinley. Jean grew up in Hartford, CT, graduating from Bulkeley High School and the St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse. On June 25, 1957, she married Richard J. Barry in Connecticut. They spent 59 wonderful years together enjoying each other and their family until Rich passed away in October, 2016. After working several years at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Jean moved with her family to Watertown, NY. She was employed as a nurse in local hospitals, Pediatric Associates of Watertown with Drs. Sturtz, Brown, and Bacsik, and completed her career as a nurse with WIC of Jefferson County. Jean was a leader in local girls and boys scout programs, served as the 4-H Camp Wabasso nurse, and was a member of the Holy Family Church choir in Watertown. Jean continued her education as an adult student, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from the State University of New York. Jean loved traveling, quilting, square dancing, bird watching, and gardening. Jean and Rich enjoyed many years at their winter home in Burnt Store Colony, Punta Gorda, FL. Jean is survived by two sons, Richard (Cheryl) Barry of N. Syracuse, Dirk (Maggie) Barry of South Windsor, CT and two daughters, Annemarie B. Landon and Elaine B. Tyler of Baldwinsville; 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; as well as her sister, Barbara Watson and brothers, Gerald McGinley and Richard McGinley, all of Connecticut. She is predeceased by her parents, husband, sister Patricia Cavallo and brother Michael McGinley. A Mass of Christian Burial is 12:00 pm Monday, August 28, at St. Mary's Church, 47 Syracuse St, Baldwinsville. Burial to follow at Riverview Cemetery.
