Obituary of Michael A. Canale

Michael A. Canale, 78, of Baldwinsville, NY passed away on Saturday, August 20, 2016, with his family by his side. He will be remembered by those that knew himas a kind and generous man who believed strongly in helping others within the community. As a devout Catholic and parishioner of St. Mary's Church, his faith inspired him to devote much of his time to philanthropic activities including his 38 years as a member of the Baldwinsville Lions Club. Born and raised in Oswego, he served honorably in the US Marine Corps before attending SUNY Oswego. He was married to Catherine Flynn in Jan. 1966 and ultimately settled in Baldwinsville in 1974 where he taught at VanBuren Elementary for the next 4 decades. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Catherine (Flynn); his daughters, Mary Erickson and Susan Mathers of Baldwinsville and his son Kevin Canale (Hsinyi Chou) of Houston, TX; his grandchildren, Alex Erickson, Daniel Mathers and Jonathan Mathers of Baldwinsville, Anthony Canale and Charlie Canale of Houston, TX; his sisters, Gerry Knosp, Donna Brown and Karen Walker of Oswego. He also leaves behind an aunt and uncle, 4 nieces, a nephew and several cousins. Calling hours are 4-7pm Wednesday, August 24, 2016, at the Falardeau Funeral Home, 93 Downer St., Baldwinsville. Funeral services are 9:30am Thursday, August 25, 2016, at the funeral home and 10:00am in St. Mary's Church with burial to follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Baldwinsville. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice in his name.
