Dear Family -
I am so sad to hear that this community has lost such a bright and shining star. Melanie was a tremendous person, a true treasure to all who had the priviledge of knowing her. If there is any support the school community can provide, please just ask. We love you all and we'll be there for you in the days ahead. Please accept my thanks for sharing Mel with all of us at JE. Even now, her life speaks in the scholarship you are forming. Thank you for your commitment to the future of our students. Marilyn

Oh, Dave, Dad told me about Melanie's death when we spoke this evening. I was both saddened and stunned to hear the news; it seemed that when you and I corresponded last November, Melanie was doing well.
This is when the "rubber" of the confirmation lessons meets the road, eh? The Christian in me truly believes in the resurrection, but I confess that the human part of me wants to scream "it's just not FAIR!"
Since I never met your wife (and haven't seen you in 35+ years) I obviously have no memories of her. I have to say, though, that from reading her obituary, she seemed like someone I would probably want to be friends with.
I will hold you all in my prayers, and hope that you and your children have outlets for your grief.

To David, Paul, Kelsey, and the Johnson Family:
I worked with Melanie for a number of years at Future, but knew her long before that when she was at Ossman.
I can't possibly offer any great words of consolation, other than she was a simply wonderful lady and co-worker. Melanie was a lady, too, in every aspect of the word.
I remember she used to tell me whenever I would light up a cigar it reminded her of her Dad's cigars!
I think what I respected about Melanie the most is when she stopped working to become a dedicated mom full-time. She was made for that.
Most sincerely and with deepest sympathy,
Brooks Watts
