Obituary of Richard H. Fastenau

Richard (Dick) Fastenau (83) died peacefully in his home Thursday morning. He is currently at the eternal golfcourse in the sky. Born and raised on Long Island. Completed High School and one year of college before Uncle Sam called him in 1951, for the Korean War. He was shipped to Korea where he was assigned to the 40th Infantry Division for front line duty in the Kumwha-Kumsong area. In September of 52, was transferred to the 8th Army Headquarters in Seoul and assigned to the 558 Military Police where he remained until after truce was called. After separated from Army, worked and went back to college. After college, worked in Manhattan in commercial insurance about a dozen years.
Got married and raised a family (2 children, Steven and Nicole) He also has an adopted daughter Stephanie Halko and a dear son-in-law, Stephen Perry.
Moved to Syracuse area in 1968, originally worked with Ryan Homes as a sales representative. Later went in to Real Estate with Gallinger Real Estate and Baker Real Estate until September 2010.
Dick was a life member of the Korean War Veteran, Chapter 105 in Syracuse, a life member of the Albert Glenn Richardson VFW Post 155, life member of the 4th Degree Knight of Columbus Council #5082, and a member of the executive committee of the American Legion Vernice Suttle Post #113. An avid golfer, Dick was a member of the Ironwood Golf & Country Club in Baldwinsville. Dick was a lifelong alumni and Syracuse University sports fanatic. GO ORANGE!
Calling hours are 1-4pm Sunday, February 9, 2014, at the Falardeau Funeral Home, 93 Downer St., Baldwinsville. A reception will follow at the American Legion Post on Smokey Hollow Rd.
