Coach Purdy was one of the most conscientious camp coaches year in and year out at the SU basketball camp. I dealt with Ivan for a number of years at Coach Boeheim's camp and I admired his drive to teach the kids the right way to play basketball. He had a level of competitiveness that I think the kids identified with and enjoyed. May time help his wife and family cope with his passing. Rest in Peace, Ivan.

We are so sorry to learn of Ivan's passing. Our deepest sympathies to you, Sue, and your family.
We have one particular memory we'd like to share: For several years Ivan and Sue have played Santa and Mrs. Claus for our young children -- visiting our house on Christmas Eve in full costume. Our four young children were thrilled to have Santa visit us before beginning his rounds, and were utterly convinced that Ivan, despite his relatively slim figure, was the "real" Santa.
Thank you so much, Santa (and Mrs. Claus), for making our Christmases so special. We will miss you!

Susan:
So sad for you at the loss of Ivan. He's one of those guys who made an impression -- some would say character, others would say unique. What passion he had for tennis, softball and most especially for basketball. We'd talk for hours about Bobby Knight. I have a commitment Tuesday but will try to get back in town as quickly as possible. He will be missed. And he always spoke so lovingly and respectfully of you, Susan. God Bless.

Many thanks for being a good friend, dear teammate and inquisitive thinker for things theologic and scientific. I so appreciated our conversations on those topics and hope you now see and understand those concepts clearly as now viewed from your elevated position. Your senior softball friends are all here for you to help Sue and your family travel through this difficult time. Thanks for the personal kind of friendship that only teammates know and understand. You are the best and we will miss you my friend.

Dear Susan,
Please accept Judy's and my sympathies over Ivan's passing. We have lived in Florida now foe almost six years, and learned of Ivan's death on Syracuse.com. What a guy!! We had more fun playing softball together, and our team dinners with spouses were just so enjoyable. Ivan was so intense on the field, and off it was just a pleasure to be around. He was a true friend to anyone who needed help with anything. I shall cherish the memories, and truly miss my friend, Ivan.

Ivan was a great Christian man. We are so sorry to hear of his passing. We will miss him in the gym - he always had such a passion for basketball - and was always so kind to our family. Just last year he took beautiful photos of my family and my team on the court and gave them to me...those were the little things he was always so excited to do. Now he can watch all the games he wants to...but he will be missed. Heaven is now a better place with Ivan in it!
