Richard H. Pirong born in Syracuse, NY December 15, 1924, passed away Monday, February 22, 2010. Raised and educated in Syracuse, Richard married Nancy (Mitchell) Pirong in June 1946. Together they lived in Florida, Virginia and other east coast states while he pursued his career in broadcast engineering. They moved to Baldwinsville in 1954 and contributed to the community for over fifty years. Richard worked as engineer and disc jockey at WOLF, WNDR and other stations in and around Syracuse. He also helped build WSEN radio station in Baldwinsville. He was employed by General Electric and later by NYS Power Authority as a Nuclear Instrumentation Specialist. In 1985 he retired from the NYS Power Authority. He and Nancy spent the next 20 winters with their children in Phoenix Arizona, returning each spring to Baldwinsville and their family there! Sadly, Nancy passed away three years ago, she was the love of his life for more than sixty years, and he missed her every day. He was a loving husband, and a caring, gentle, loving father and grandfather. He dearly loved his friends who were a very important part of his life. Dickie was surrounded and cared for by good friends, people he loved and who loved him. He was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Nancy, in 2007 and his son David R. in 1984. He is survived by his daughters Audrey (Larry) Jones of Phoenix, AZ, Beth (John) McLaughlin of Bridgeport, NY, son James (Deborah) Pirong of Phoenix, AZ, two grandchildren, Lynette (Robert) Hayford of Theresa, NY and Randy Perrin of Bridgeport, great-grandson Gage Hayford of Theresa, NY and many nieces and nephews.
