Philip Tracy Hirt, 95, of Round Rock, TX and Fayetteville, NY passed away at St. David's Hospital in Round Rock, TX. Born in Warren, OH on September 5, 1925, he was the son of the late Frederick P. and Alice E. (née Foley) Hirt. Phil graduated from Hobart College with a Bachelor's degree in Physics and from the University of Texas (Austin) with a Master's degree in Physics. Phil was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Fayetteville where he was a member of the choir and assisted with buildings and grounds improvements. He was a cub scout leader, boy scout leader and scoutmaster for many years. Phil was a World War II veteran who also served for several years as an active duty Air Force officer after college, with a final rank of Lt. Colonel in the Air Force Reserve. Phil worked for the Martin Company at Cape Canaveral in Florida, primarily on launch pad 19 that was later used for the Gemini program. Phil worked as a Heavy Military Systems Engineer for the General Electric Company in the Syracuse area for 25 years, retiring in 1985. Phil is survived by two daughters, Nancy Hirt of Pflugerville, TX and Sara Frister of Doylestown, PA; two sons, Glenn (Marilyn) Hirt of Baldwinsville, NY and Andrew (Margaret Ann) Hirt of Antigonish, Nova Scotia; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Phil was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Sara K. Hirt in 2014; and two brothers, Richard F. Hirt and William M. Hirt. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
