My father, John S Reuter, claimed Phil Hirt as one of his best friends when he lived in North Tonawanda in either 1939 or 1940, as he and his folks moved back to Wisconsin in 1941. He said that he had met Phil right away since he joined the band. Daddy played the trombone and Phil played the trumpet. He tried so hard to find his old friend (pre-internet days) and sadly could never locate him. Tonight his name popped into my mind and I looked him up and saw his obituary. Daddy died on 12/26/2020, just 3 days shy of his 96th birthday. I have a series of stories that Daddy wrote about his friendship with Phil and I'd love to share them with your family if you'd like.
