Obituary of Vern G. Benedict

The concrete foundation of Vern Benedict was sealed on Feb.26 and now will cure in eternity. The foundations he has laid will forever have his fingerprints throughout Syracuse and the surrounding areas. Vern Benedict, 87, left this world for a well-deserved rest on Feb. 26 doing one of his favorite things, watching the SU basketball game. Vern lived in Memphis NY his entire life and graduated from Jordan High School. He served in the US Army during the Korean War and was a member of the Masonic Temple in Jordan for 55 years. Vern opened his concrete floor business in 1966 Benedict Floors, lnc. and was an icon in the construction industry, known for the quality of his work, his honesty and humble manner. Vern was predeceased by his parents Fred and Mary Benedict, his first wife of 49 years Ginny, a son-in-law Jim Martin and a stepson Pete Carey. He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Ann Sheppard Benedict, his 3 sons Tom (Kathy ), Fred, John (Jackie); His 4 daughters, Jean Smith, Sharon Wright (Jeff), Sandy Martin, Mary Allen (Larry). His only brother Carl (Jane). He is also survived by 6 stepchildren Joe, Michael, John, Pat, Bob and Sue. Also survived by 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 15 step-grandchildren and 20 step-great-grandchildren. Also survived by 4 sisters-in-law from his first marriage and 3 brothers-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews and a slew of seasoned friends. Calling hours are 3-7 pm, Monday, March 2 at Falardeau Funeral Home, 93 Downer St, Baldwinsville. Services are 11 am Tuesday, March 3 at the funeral home.
