John was a truly first class human being. I knew him from 1986-88 while attending Simmons School. He was the school custodian - a shame since a man of his knowledge could have been our chemistry professor.
He enjoyed interacting with the students and always added a bit of good natured levity and humor to our day.
He made such an impression on some of the student body that the class prior to mine dedicated their class yearbook to him.
I am glad to know you were blessed with 97 years of life. May your family be comforted by the many happy memories you leave behind.

So sorry to hear of John's passing. I worked with him at Hanford's many years ago. Such a nice man. My sincere condolences to the family.

Grandpa John, it’s hard to believe you’re gone. Even though we were far away, the phone calls and visits reassured me that you always loved us and wanted us to be happy no matter what. When I last visited NY with my best friend Jenni, you helped us feel welcome and comfortable in your home after our long road trip. I will always remember you telling stories from when my mom was growing up, and the first time she brought my dad home to meet you and Grandma. You also told us that you can place the bottle cap back on top of a bottle of beer and save it in the fridge for another day or two. I’ll be having a cold one in your honor, Grandpa John. I know things were challenging near the end of your time here on earth, but I am hopeful that you have found peace now. I’m comforted by the love of our family, and I’ll see you on the other side.

Grandpa John,
Even though we were in Minnesota, my sister(Melanie) and I knew how much you loved us. I remember getting care packages as a child from you and grandma at Christmas and Easter. They always had such thoughtful things including items from Simmons School (t-shirts, notepads, pens, and sometimes even rubber gloves :-) ). I think it showed how much you loved what you did. It was nice to talk with you on the phone when we could about the everyday things including the birds outside the window!
You lived a long life here on earth. I am grateful for the longevity in our genes and hope to live a long and happy life too.
Love Jill

Here’ are some things I want you to know about my dad. He made the best stuffed cabbage. Every summer he would make multiple pans and bake them in our basement gas oven. I would eat them right after baked (even if it was 9 p.m. on a Saturday night) .
They called him “Bird Dog” in the Army although I am not sure it was for his superior directional skills or his lack of them.
He saw the value in things others might throw out. Not many people could say there was a non- working autoclave in their garage.
And , over the last few years my dad would say “growing old isn’t for sissies “. He struggled as his vision declined because it took away so much of his independence. But I remember one phone conversation on a particularly good day for him when he had thoughts of maybe he could make it to 100 . Well dad you didn’t quite make it to having your picture on that Smuckers jar, but I know that you are in heaven enjoying perfect vision and a grand reunion with your brothers and Beau Coup.
