Obituary of Fred H. Hale, Jr.

Fred Hale, Jr. passed away peacefully on the morning of January 23, 2019 at Loretto RCHF in Jamesville, N.Y. He was 97 years old. Fred was born on November 30, 1921 in Portland, Maine. He was the youngest of five children. Fred was a miler on the South Portland High School track team and graduated in 1940. Fred attended the University of Maine and graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1944. He married his loving wife, Jane Strachan, in 1944. Together they moved to Springfield, MA where Fred was an engineer with General Electric. After moving to Schenectady, they settled in Baldwinsville, NY where Fred continued working for G.E. until his retirement. Fred was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He enjoyed traveling, playing golf, dancing, sailing, bridge club and 'fixing' any item that was not working! He was beloved by every grandchild for his Big Bear Stories and Nip-Oh-Nappo songs. Fred was an Elder and an active member at the First Presbyterian Church in Baldwinsville. He was a past Master of the Seneca River Lodge #160 Free Masons and a member of the Tigris Shrine in Liverpool. Fred is survived by his three children: Linda (Gerald) Vredenburg of LaFayette, N.Y., Christopher (Lynn) Hale of Norfolk, Virginia and Fred (Terry) Hale III of Pittsford, N.Y., six grandsons, thirteen great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Words cannot express the family's deep appreciation to all of the staff at Loretto RCHF for the kindness, comfort and compassion shown to Fred and his family.
