Stanley J. Reeves passed away on February 16, 2018, at the age of 93 in Pinellas Park, Florida. Stan was born on September 7, 1924, the second son of Flossie S. and Edward T. Reeves. He grew up on the family dairy farm and graduated from Baldwinsville Academy, class of '41. He enjoyed playing on the basketball and baseball teams in high school. After a PG year, he entered Cornell University, College of Agriculture, in September '42 and then returned to the farm in the spring of '43 to assist in the war effort. He enlisted in the US Army Air Corps Cadet program in May '44 and served until the war ended. In November of '45, he re-entered Cornell and graduated with the class of '48. At Cornell he was a member of Alpha Zeta Fraternity and met his future wife, Mary Lou Seeley. In the fall of '49, he became the Vocational Agriculture teacher at Wyoming Central School as well as Director of the Veterans on Farm Training Program, which served 5 counties. He played basketball and baseball on the town teams while at Wyoming Central. He and Mary Lou were married on Easter Sunday, 1951. In '54 he left Wyoming Central to accept an Assistantship in the Agriculture Education Dept. at Cornell. After two years, during which time he obtained his Masters of Education degree, he was recruited by the US State Dept. to become an Agricultural Education Advisor to the Ministry of Education in Iran. Mary Lou accompanied him on this tour which lasted from 1956-1958. Upon returning to the states, he took a job as a Guidance Counselor at Jamesville-DeWitt High School in the fall of '59 and retired from that position in 1980. During his professional career, he served as President of the J-D Faculty Association and Treasurer of the Onondaga County Teachers Association. He was a life member of the NYS Retired Teachers Association and was a supporter of the Onondaga County Retired Teachers Association until his death. He was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church UCC in Syracuse, where he served in several capacities. After retirement, he spent winters in Clearwater Florida, and was active at Faith UCC Dunedin. He was a member of Lamson Grange for 75 years, and Past President of the Plaza Pines Mobile Home Association, where he and Mary Lou spent winters from 1980-2013. He then resided at The Barrington Assisted Living Facility in Largo, where he continued to make friends and share his warm smile and great sense of humor. Stan leaves behind his loving daughter, Patricia (James) Reeves Allen and two wonderful grandchildren, Carina and Jeffrey Allen as well as a brother, Cecil Reeves and sister, Rosalie Depew and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Louise Reeves, in 2013 and sister, Rosalyn Snow, in 2010. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 19th at 2:00 PM at Plymouth Congregational Church, 232 E. Onondaga St, Syracuse. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Plymouth Congregational Church UCC in Syracuse NY, Faith UCC in Dunedin FL, Lamson Grange or Alpha Zeta Fraternity at Cornell University.
