I just learned of Tootie's death from a mutual friend in San Diego. I am so sorry to hear of your tragic loss and even though I haven't seen her for over 40 years, I still remember the incredibly effervescent Tootie Merante from Rosary. I went on to Bishop Ludden High School so we traveled in different social circles. I had hoped to make it back for my 50th HS reunion last summer (we are in Maryland now) and to look up old classmates from grammar school; however, a major back surgery and recuperation prohibited travel at that time.
I am not surprised to hear what a big family she had, her love of sports and her talents at baking. She brought joy to everyone who met her and I can still picture her and that "impish" smile, curly hair and living life to the fullest attitude.
My condolences to the family

I followed Mary’s path during her illness. I will never forget that beautiful smile. Mary and I were cheerleaders together at MHR and there was a immediate connection. She had that gift, she never met a stranger. She was also very spirited and sometimes devilish. She also made her mark at Syracuse and the Alumni will miss her terribly. God chose a shinning star when it was her time, The sadness and sorrow is left with those of us who knew and loved her. I will continue to think of her as time passes and know she is still using that smile from above to guide her family especially those grandkids, through lithe life she loved so much. Be at Peace “Tootie”
With much sorrow

My Mary,
You graced us with your beautiful smile and blue eyes with love, passion and friendship. We will miss you dearly. We want everyone to know how much you and the wonderful family that you loved so dearly has meant to the Sidwell's. You entered our world at a time that we needed your love and support the most. Moving to Syracuse in 2006 was one of the greatest adventures that our family has ever embarked on in our journey. In having you there to welcome us, show us the way, and make us laugh made it all that much better.
Your new spot in heaven with your parents will allow you to continue guiding us all on our way through life.
You my dear will always hold a special place in our hearts and make sure you save us a spot down the road when you welcome us all again.
Love you always,
Scott and the Sidwell family.

Our deepest sympathy for Mary and her family!
We were just a few that first met Mary at the Orange pack when my son was young.
Her contagious smile and laughter will stay in my mind forever as we enjoyed many of her SU trips she put together. Her cheerful voice calling my sons nickname "Doodle Bug" as she helped me chase him around, will continue to make us all smile. Thank you for introducing Ellen to my brother.....I have three beautiful nieces because of her!
Rest in Peace.....You will be greatly missed!

To John and family:
So sad to learn about Mary. She was such a wonderful lady. Her smile and the sparkle in her eyes were just special. Mary was the jewel in the Orange Pack(Club) office. No matter when you stopped in, she always greeted you with a warmness that made you feel at that moment, that you were the most important person in the world.
We hope that it is some comfort to her family that she was loved by so many of the SU Orange fans and will be so missed! Mary had the unique ability to have had such a positive effect on so many other people. May God give you strength at this difficult time.

In 2007 I was an intern with The Orange Club at Syracuse University. That is where I met Mary. She was always so kind, with that big smile on her face each morning. From day one she made me feel like part of the team and we had so many conversations that I will never forget. She really was one of the kindest people I have ever met and she has made a lasting impression. My thoughts go out to her family.
Sending love from Barcelona, Spain,

To Mary's Family, I was sadden to read of Mary's passing. I knew Mary from the
early days at Manley when she worked with Joe Szombathy and I worked at the
