William (Bud) James Cook passed away peacefully on Friday, March 2nd at The Cunningham (Loretto) in Syracuse. Bud was born in Syracuse, NY, May 27, 1926 to Marie and George Cook. Bud graduated from Nottingham High School in 1944 and was the senior class president. After serving in the military Bud attended several classes at Syracuse University. The summer of graduation Bud was drafted in the Army and trained at Fort Dix. Bud was then sent over to Germany to fight in World War ll. He was very proud of being a veteran and a survivor of the Battle of the Bulge. William and Joyce were happily married for 69 years and lived in the Syracuse area. Bud enjoyed golf, playing cards, watching SU sports, and visiting with his family and friends. William is predeceased by his wife Joyce, son Jeffrey Cook, brothers George Cook (Thelma), Robert Cook (Ginny), Philip Cook (Jeanne), Fred Cook (Anne), and one sister, June Wicks (Philip). Bud is survived by one brother, Jack Cook (Mary Lou) of Clinton, NY, sister in law Ginny of N. Syracuse, sister in law Dorothy of Minoa, brother in law Eddie (Wendy) of N. Syracuse, sister in law, Pam (Gary) of Denver. Bud is also survived by his son, Dr. Steven Cook (Bobbie) of Banner Elk North Carolina and his daughter, Marilyn Cook Hirt (Glenn) of Baldwinsville, New York. He is survived by six grandchildren, James (Ginny), William (Jessica), Andrew (Stephanie), Mary (David), Scott (Jenn), and Paul (Carla). Bud had 10 great-grandchildren who adored their great grandfather. Bud also had 30 nieces and nephews and he loved them all. Bud worked at Smith & Caffrey Steel Company in Syracuse for 43 years. He started in the steel factory as an hourly employee and retired as the Operations Manager for the company. Upon retirement, Joyce and Bud moved to Hendersonville, North Carolina. Bud and Joyce moved back to the Syracuse area 12 years ago and resided in Baldwinsville until 2016 when they moved to The Heritage in Syracuse. Calling hours are 2-5 pm, Sunday March 4 at Falardeau Funeral Home, 93 Downer St, Baldwinsville. Services are 10 am Monday, March 5 at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Oakwood-Morningside Cemetery. ln lieu of flowers, please contribute in William's name to the Syracuse Alzheimer's Association of Central New York or the ASPCA.
