Obituary of Elma B. Shampine

Please share a memory of Elma to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Elma Shampine, 88, most recently of Poughkeepsie passed away at home on Tuesday, February 13. The daughter of Amelia and Sherman Allen, she was born and raised in northern New York. This is also where she met her husband and raised her family. From there they moved to Baldwinsville for many years before she finally settled in the Poughkeepsie area with family after her husband's passing. Elma was a retired school bus driver for the Baldwinsville School District. She enjoyed gardening and birdwatching (especially cardinals), the Atlanta Braves, SU basketball, and most of all spending time with her family. She had a kind heart, a wonderful sense of humor, a quick wit and ever-flowing love. Elma was predeceased by her husband James Shampine, Brothers Ralph and Harold Allen, and sister Iva Allen. She is survived by her four children, Michael Shampine, Lawrence Joseph (Karen) Shampine, Faye Baldwin, and Avis Bishop; eleven grandchildren, Scott (Treyonne) Baldwin, Erin (John) Naismith, Jame (Kelly) Bishop, Nicole Hochberg, Kerie (Brent) Hildreth, Michael Joseph Shampine, Paul (Karin) Bishop, Sam (Brian) Masterson, Danny (Melissa) Shampine, Steph (Sara) Bishop-Berks, and Lauren Shampine; twelve great-grandchildren; two sisters, Elda Chisamore and Elva Smith; and many other extended family members. Elma will be forever loved and missed by all who knew her, but she is resting now as she is reunited with her husband. Services will be private, but donations may be made in her memory to Beaver Lake Nature Center, 8477 E Mud Lake Rd, Baldwinsville, NY 13027.
