Obituary of Agnes A. Van Gorden

Agnes A. Van Gorden, 90, of Jordan, N.Y., passed away on September 2, 2017 at St. Joseph's Hospital.

 

Born in 1927 in Black River, N.Y., she grew up in the Oswegatchie and Star Lake area. She moved to Syracuse, NY and started working at General Electric Company where she met her husband, Dennis O. Van Gorden. Together they purchased Lakeside Apple Orchard and Cider Mill in 1959 where they raised their family of eight children. In addition, Agnes was the President of Electrical Testing Service, the company she founded with her husband.

 

Agnes was an avid reader and imparted that reading passion onto many of her grandchildren. Agnes enjoyed the company of her extended family, which includes 25 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. She was also passionate about her apple orchard and could be seen at the Regional Market selling apples and cider for many years before her retirement.

 

Agnes is predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Dennis O. Van Gorden; son, Michael Van Gorden; sisters: Mary T. Bradley, Ellen Thomas, Catherine V. Stolberg, Patricia A. Luther; brothers: Robert Murphy, Vincent Murphy, Edward J. Murphy, Gerald F. Murphy and Thomas Murphy; daughter in law Jennifer Van Gorden & son in law Kenneth Troast.

 

Agnes is survived by her sisters: Joanne E. (Francis) LaDuc, Carthage, N.Y. and Emily M. Nolan, Oswegatchie, N.Y., her daughters: Bonnie (George) Mangicaro, Liverpool, N.Y., Kathleen Troast, Jordan, N.Y., Dee (James) Iozzia, Lady Lake, FL., Kelley (Kevin) Clifford, Lady Lake, F.L., Cole (Donald) Petrocci, Skaneateles, N.Y.,; sons: Dennis P. (Kathy Jo) , Jordan, N.Y and Matthew A., Bridgeport, N.Y.

 

Calling hours are 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, September 5th at Falardeau Funeral Home, 93 Downer St., Baldwinsville. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, September 6th at 10 am in St. Mary's Church, Baldwinsville, followed by burial at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Warners, New York.
