Patricia Costa Normanly passed away peacefully with family at her side on July 30 , 2017, after a long illness. Patty Lou, as she was affectionately called by her large extensive family, was born on February 1, 1948 in Detroit, MI, to Charles and Bernice Costa, the third child of seven. She is preceded in death by her parents and her older sister, Catherine. She is survived by her devoted and caring husband, Charles B. Normanly, her sons Brian (Christy) and Michael, two beautiful twin granddaughters, Sofia and Isabel, whom she loved with all her heart, and five siblings: Ellen Hardy (David) of Syracuse, Michael Costa (Anne) of North Syracuse, John Costa (Kathleen) of San Diego, CA, Louis Costa (Sharon) of Mt. Vernon, Illinois and Mark of Murphysboro, Illinois, and many nieces and nephews. Pat graduated from Blessing Hospital School of Nursing in Quincy, Illinois, in 1969. She joined the US Army and served her country as a registered nurse at Chu Lai during the Vietnam War. She remained an active member of the 174th Air National Guard for 20 years, attaining the rank of Major. She spent most of her 38-year career at Upstate University Hospital in the neuro ICU department. There she worked with 4 women who became her life-long friends and who recently used their skills to making her final medical trials as comfortable as possible: Sue, Diane, Annie, and Glenda. In retirement, she taught clinical nursing at the Syracuse City Central Tech nursing program. She and Chuck enjoyed many good times camping and traveling with friends. Pat had an effervescent, contagious personality that won her many friends. She shared her giving spirit and undying energy with those who knew her. Many friends and family will long enjoy her beautiful quilts and wood crafts created throughout her lifetime. She was fun to be around and brought a light to every room she entered. Friends and family will miss her dearly. The family would like to thank the caring and attentive staff at St. Joseph's hospital for their care of Pat in the last few years. Calling hours will be held Friday, August 4, 2017, at Falardeau Funeral Home, 93 Downer St., Baldwinsville, NY, between 4 and 7.
