Obituary of Betty Ann Cranston

Betty Cranston, 84, passed away Tuesday. She was born August 20, 1932 in Fredonia, NY to the late Alfred and Thirza Gillson Grant. She attended a one room school house through the seventh grade and Graduated from Fredonia High School in 1950. Betty worked for the New York Telephone Company in Dunkirk for 12 years and then 35 years at the NY State Fair as an All-Night Telephone Operator. Betty was also on the Octoberfest Committee over 20 years. Betty is predeceased by her 3 sons, David, Tommy and Scott Cranston. Betty is survived by her husband of 65 years, Edward Cranston; daughters Sue (Rick) Rich, Karen (Duke) Strache, Deb and (Kelley) Corbett, Linda Cranston; granddaughters Michelle (Chris) Cielesz and Lauren (Adam) Grimmett and Lindsey Rich; great-grandchildren Cooper & Carter Cielesz and Lillian Grimmett. Betty devoted the better part of her life to her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She created a warm, loving and nurturing environment for her entire family. A naturally talented cook, she relished every chance to gather with family for a feast; and was always prepared for last minute guests. She cherished holidays, birthdays, traditions and celebrations. She enjoyed spending winters in Florida and times at the YMCA. Betty was an inspiration and a loyal friend to all. Her life was filled with challenges, yet she met them all with enormous strength and the ability to face them with her big beautiful smile. She will be deeply missed. Continuing with her commitment to helping others, she has chosen to donate her body to the National Institutes of Health. Calling hours will be Friday, July 7th from 4-7 pm at Falardeau Funeral Home, 93 Downer Street, Baldwinsville. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 8th at 1pm at the First United Methodist Church in Baldwinsville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pediatric Infectious Disease Fund-c/o The Upstate Foundation 750 East Adams St., CAB- Rm. 326 Syracuse, N.Y. 13210 or the GBAC.
