Obituary of Walter E. Beer

Please share a memory of Walter to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Walter E. Beer, 93, of Jamesville, NY, passed away peacefully on October 5 after a brief illness. He was born in Vienna, Austria, on June 2, 1923, and came to America as a refugee in 1939. His parents, Irma and Max Beer, were Holocaust victims. During World War II, Walter proudly served in the American Army Intelligence in England, France, and Germany. While in Germany, he met his future wife, Theresa, whom he married in 1947. They settled in NYC where Walter managed a printing company, and they raised their only child, Linda, in Forest Hills. In 1985, they retired to Syracuse to be near their beloved daughter and her family. That same year, Walter provided the inspiration and support for the foundation of his son-in-law Mark's accounting firm, Peters & Associates, CPAs. Walter enjoyed following politics and the stock market, reading, doing puzzles, and rooting for the NY Yankees. He played bridge and, because of the long walks he took, was nicknamed "Walter the Walker." But most of all, he was known for his kind gentle ways, risqué sense of humor, and deep love for his family. He devoted his life to loving and supporting his daughter and son-in-law, grandchildren, and great-granddaughters. Walter is survived by his daughter Linda Peters (Mark) of Manlius; two granddaughters, Katharine Neuman (Michael) and Jennifer; two great-granddaughters, Annabelle and Madelyn. He was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Theresa. Calling hours will be on Saturday, October 8, from 4 to 5:30 pm at Falardeau Funeral Home, 93 Downer Street, Baldwinsville. The family will hold a private service immediately following. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Walter's memory to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 100 Metropolitan Drive, Liverpool, NY 13088.
