Alfonso Carfagno, 79, passed away peacefully at St. Joseph's surrounded by his family. He was born June 12, 1937, in Syracuse to the late Rosario and Lola Galuppo Carfagno. Al began his retail career in 1956 as a buyer with Dey Brothers. From 1974 to1980, he was the Area Manager for nine Casual Corner stores in the West Coast of FL. Al joined Joske's in 1980 and in 1981, acting as General Manager, headed up the management team and opened Joske's in Corpus Christi, TX. Al moved back to Syracuse, NY, in 1984 to be Vice President and Director of four Dey Brothers stores. He moved to San Antonio, TX in 1987 where he opened and managed Dillard's on the San Antonio River Walk. In 1993, Al relocated to Cleveland, OH to open and manage Dillard's, where he retired in 1995. During his career, he also served in the Army National Guard. He treasured his time in the retail business but also enjoyed the outdoors and gardening. Al is predeceased by his parents and his brother, Daniel Carfagno. Al is survived by his beloved family; wife, Joan Lauricella Carfagno, daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie Carfagno Olavarrieta and Michael Olavarrieta and their children Nicholas and Jonathan; brothers, John (Judy) Carfagno and Russell Carfagno; uncle, Daniel Carfagno; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Calling hours are 9:00 to 10:00 am Wednesday, September 28 at Falardeau Funeral Home, 93 Downer St, Baldwinsville, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 am Wednesday at St. Mary's Church, Baldwinsville. Burial in St. Mary's Cemetery in DeWitt. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Mary's School, 47 Syracuse St, Baldwinsville, NY 13027.
