Obituary of William D. Solomon

Bill "King" Solomon, 77, passed away Wednesday, at Auburn Hospital. He was born on the Saint Regis Mohawk Indian Reservation. Bill graduated from Jordan High School in 1957 and earned varsity letters in football (1954-57) and made the first team All-League in 1957, lettered in baseball (1954-57) and made the first team All-League in 1957. He also played varsity basketball from 1955-57, earning a spot on the second team All-League in 1956 and first team in 1957. His senior year he won the Dave Howe Award Top Male Athlete. After the military and college, Solomon returned to Jordan-Elbridge in 1968, taught special education and coached until 2000. He coached varsity golf, varsity basketball and junior varsity and junior high football for 25 years. Under his direction, the boys' basketball team was Section III Class C champions in 1982 and 1985. He was inducted into the Section III hall of fame in 2005. Solomon was the General Manager for the Iroquois Nationals Lacrosse team for which his three sons played. Bill is predeceased by his parents Joseph and Katherine Solomon and his brother Stanley "Bo". Bill is survived by his wife Veronica McNeill Solomon; sons William D. Jr. of Baldwinsville, Patrick (Jennifer) of Victor, NY, and Timothy (Tina) of Baldwinsville; grandchildren Connor, Liam, Aidan and Maggie; brothers Harold (Angel) of Camillus and Joseph (Susan) of Weedsport; sister-in-law Dale Solomon; in-laws Martha Fenton, Margaret Ann Albin, Ellen McNeill, Patrick McNeill, Kathleen (Edward) McLaughlin, Regina (Gary) Place, Michael McNeill, Susan McNeill, Henry (Nancy) McNeill, and Mary (Joseph) Mannion; and several nieces and nephews. A service will be held at 9:30 am Saturday, June 18 at the Falardeau Funeral Home, 93 Downer St, Baldwinsville and 10 am Mass at St Mary's Church, 47 Syracuse St, Baldwinsville. Visitation will be Friday, June 17 from 4-7 pm at Falardeau Funeral Home. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery.
