Obituary of Barbara Jean Longwell

Barbara Powers Longwell of Cicero, NY died April 17, 2016 at St. Joseph’s Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Earl Ray and Ruth Jones Powers of Syracuse and Bloomfield, CT. She was predeceased by her husband of fifty-two years, Robert Jesse Longwell, 2 brothers Burr and David, and sister-in-law Virginia Powers. Barbara was born in Syracuse, NY and grew up in Manlius, graduating from Manlius High School in 1941. After graduation the family moved to Bloomfield, CT where she attended Hillyer College in Hartford. She worked in Public Relations and Sales for United Air Lines and retired from Robinson-Mohawk Airlines in Ithaca, NY. Barbara was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Baldwinsville and more recently, the Cicero United Methodist Church. She was a life member of the Society of Mayflower Descendants in the State of CT, the National Society Women Descendants of the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company and the General Asa Danforth Chapter DAR. She was a member of Chapter BT, P.E.O, a Philanthropic Education Organization. She was a former volunteer for Community General Hospital and the Syracuse Home. Survivors: a son Jonathan Robert (Sandra) Longwell of Clay; three daughters Lucinda R. (Daniel) Accordino, Cazenovia, Karen Ann (Richard) Smith, Cortlandt Manor, NY and Diane J. Longwell of Cicero; 9 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at the Cicero United Methodist Church. Burial to follow at the Woodlawn Cemetery, Syracuse. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Cicero United Methodist Church at 8416 Brewerton Rd., Cicero, NY 13039.
