I was 14 years old when I went Mother of the Savior Seminary. I spent 6 years there Colin
Was by far the best teacher I had. Brilliant but not self centered, he was kind and good humored. Most of all he was patient with a bunch of city kids who didn't know Shakespere from Spider-Man.
I saw him and his lovely wife a few years ago at a reunion. I will miss him but keep great memories alive in my heart. He made a big difference in my life. "it's not what you take when you leave this world behind you, it's what you leave behind you when you go." RIP

I knew Fr. Colin as a great coach and teacher in Blackwood NJ at the Mother of the Saviour Prep Seminary while I was a student there from 1961 to 1964. He was a levelheaded and giving person and I remember his kindness and calm demeanor well. I received a great education there that followed me through life and I too eventually made a career of counseling, in my case, helping war disabled veterans. Please accept my sincere condolences on Colin Kahl's death but be assured that memories of his work carry on and are remembered fondly.

Having taught more than 20,000 students over the past four decades at the University of Massachusetts, I am often reminded of the most influential teachers in my life. Without question, Colin stands out as an inspiration, a man who was a model of brilliance, intelligence, and insight in the classroom. Colin’s English classes at Mother of the Savior shine in my memory as models for capturing the attention and imagination of students. I still recall his excitement as he spoke about seeing “West Side Story” on Broadway, and as he told us about the brilliance of composer Leonard Bernstein. Colin managed to bring every English lesson to life with vivid imagery and engaging commentary. I feel so very fortunate to have benefited from the teaching of this gifted and loving man. I will continue to strive to pass along his love of learning to my students in the days ahead, as I know that I have been a fortunate beneficiary of his gifts.
With warm affection and admiration,
Richard Halgin

Colin taught me at Mother of the Savior Seminary in New Jersey. He was the Dean of Discipline, but his heart wasn't in it....He loved literature and he was a sensational teacher. He was smart as hell and a very nice man....I love the video....I'm glad to see he ended up with lots of gorgeous women around him.

Dear Liz, Ann and family another great man rests in peace. Colin is a man that was a professional and cared deeply about his family, friends, and students. He will never know the impact he had on many lives. He was an inspiration to me, a person I looked up to and one who took me under his wings when I came to Liverpool. He taught me to never compromise my values or beliefs. He was an example of working hard, enjoying family, and enjoying life. I am a blessed and better man for knowing him. My sincere condolences and thanks for sharing him with me and the many Liverpudlians. God bless you all.

Mr. Kahl was my guidance counselor during high school. I graduated in 1977. I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life at the time. He told me I was good in math and maybe pursue a degree in what was then called Data Processing. He gave me advice on colleges that were strong for that. Well I took his advice and have been in the computer programming field for 35 years now. It was the best advice I could have been given. I didn't even know the field existed at the time. When people ask me how I got into the field, I always give credit to Mr. Kahl. I'll always be appreciative of that and am sorry to hear of his passing.

I am so sorry to read of Mr. Kahl's passing.
I graduated from LHS in 1993. Mr. Kahl was not my official guidance counselor, but he was for some of my friends and I met him through my Confirmation class at St. Joseph the Worker church. I remember him as being a very kind and patient man who was always willing to lend an ear or help me if I were to stop in to visit him, and I have thought of him often through the years. I saw him as a "cool" teacher in my time of teenage angst.
Mr. Kahl was a wonderful person who made an impact on me and on the lives of so many others. RIP Mr. Kahl.

My sincere condolences to his family, he had a great impact on many students in House 4 during his 29 years at LHS.

Colin was just simply a terrific man who made a difference to anyone who knew him! So bright, such an interesting conversationalist, and especially so kind to students and teachers alike, he made Baker High School a more civilized place during a time when civility was in short supply. i quite admired him…and found in his daughter Amy many of the same characteristics. i will always cherish a framed picture of his beloved dog in an open doorway…i loved that dog and the poignancy of the picture. Colin, with his gentle smile and gracious gestures, lifted it off his desk and gave it to me, saying "It's yours." Thank you for being you, Colin.
My sincere condolences to all of you, his family. He was a special man.
