My brother Jess was an Onondaga County Sheriff and was acquainted with Earl. Both Jess and Earl lived at Van Duyn and were good friends - Earl always included Jess in the many visits by retired deputies where they discussed past events and passed along the many names of people they knew thru the years.
Both Jess & I always enjoyed spending time with Earl - we had many talks about "life" in general - solved a lot of problems facing today's world! When we ended our visits, Earl always closed by saying "God Bless".
He was elected President of the Resident Council where he was able to speak to and for the residents. He was steadfast in this effort. The entire Van Duyn community (both staff & residents) will miss his daily presence.
We want to extend our deepest sympathy to his family - he will be sincerely missed by
Jess.

Even though we didn't see or speak often, I will remember our times together with love and affection for a big brother who always had a smile and great stories of a life well lived. Rest in peace.
My sincere condolences to all the family.

I am so sorry to hear of Eli's passing. When I was younger, he was like a second dad to me. He had a glorious spirit and love for life. He never did anything small!! I will always remember his stories and time spent with him. Thoughts and prayers to his family.

Eli was like my second dad. He worked with my father at the Onondaga County Sheriffs Office. I heard story after story about the good ole days when being a cop was fun. It was a pleasure to visit with him and hear these stories. Yes, sometimes I heard the same story more than once but I'll tell ya, the story never changed and he even remembered peoples names! His memory was like an elephants memory and it impressed me. Eli always had a smile on his face and could make friends with anyone. I will definitely miss him but I know that with my dad and Eli looking after me from heaven there is nothing I can't do with them on my side. My Sincerest sympathies to his family.
