He was one of the coolest dads I ever met. I always envied you him.
Anecdote: I recall seeing and your telling me in situ how he had gone (to hide) to have a nap in that back room in the basement of the house one day. There was a bed in there with a piece of plywood suspended over the head and foot boards that had an HO train set all set up on top of it. Well, as I recall the story, when he woke up, in his post-nap bleariness, he thought he was in a coffin. Premature burial like in a Poe story. An embarrassing moment for him, but he was cool enough to share it. A man of quality like him is sure to be missed.

Messages of Sympathy:
I am deeply saddened by the passing of my grandfather Howard P. Mortimer. He was a brave and brilliant man, a combat veteran, and someone I always looked up to throughout my life. When I was a boy I spent a lot of time on his HAM radio and learning about his work at the Crucible Steel Corp. Grandpa Mort would give me samples of different metals and elements of the periodic table over time to collect. It strongly encouraged me to learn and embrace the sciences. I have the utmost honor for my grandfather who has given me inspiration I will carry with me, always. Grandma, Mom, and all in our family ~ you have my sympathies and the Love of Lisa and I. Grandpa will live on in our memories and cherished in my heart forever.
