Ione Mettler Simons, 92, loving wife, mother and grandmother died at Syracuse Home, Baldwinsville on Wednesday April 16, 2008. Born in Sherburne, she was a graduate of Sherburne High School and Rochester Institute of Technology. She was employed with the Avon, NY school system and by Livingston County Social Services. She enjoyed square dancing and collecting antique dishes and furniture. Ione was a caretaker of her family history, preserving the memorabiia that was important to it. She loved the beauty of nature that was revealed through plants and flowers and was an avid gardener for most of her life. She was a member of Eastern Star and the Syracuse Home Auxillary. A communicant of Grace Church, Baldwinsville, she was an original member of Stephen Ministry at Grace. After retirement, she and her husband traveled, spending winters in Naples, Florida where she was a Hospice Volunteer. She is predeceased by Donald, her husband of 51 years. Survivors: four daughters, Barbara Simons (DeWolf) of Detroit, MI, Nancy (Thomas) Fredette of Baldwinsville, Joanne (Thomas) Tomasi of Prescott, AZ and Suzanne (Thomas) Kelmartin of West Chester, PA and six grandchildren, Kevin, Sarah, Brian, Amelia, Ian, and Peter. Services: 1:00pm Saturday April 19, 2008 at Grace Episcopal Church, 110 Oswego Road, Baldwinsville. Burial in Sherburne West Hill Cemetery. Calling hours are 5-7pm Friday April 18, 2008 at the Falardeau Funeral Home, 93 Downer St., Baldwinsville. Contributions: In lieu of flowers to Stephen Ministry Training, Grace Episcopal Church, 110 Oswego Road, Baldwinsville, NY 13027 or Hospice of Naples, Inc., 1095 Whippoorwill Lane, Naples, FL 34105.
