There are not enough words to describe the love I have for my friend, Marie Kelly. To me she was the spirit of courage, faith, charity and love. Her service to her Lord God and her love for all people lift her above and beyond us, leaving us spellbound and amazed as we think back on her life and her legacy.
My most poignant memory of Marie is that of the Kelly's backyard skating rink. She welcomed all of us to come and skate in her backyard and once there we felt that we too were Kelly's, part of the family. The rink was Tim's pride. He spent hours constructing and filling the rink, sometimes throughout the night to get it ready for the waiting skaters.
Each year in the fall my children couldn't wait for the rink to be finished. Off they would rush, tying on skates at the rink's edge and then entering the rink creating a traffic jam as they pushed out into the other skaters. Marie's house was filled with skates and overflowed with neighborhood children. Mine among them. We were always welcomed, always taken care of.
And there at the edge of the rink, Marie would be standing, her shining presence, smiling her love for the children.
I feel that I have been blessed to have known Marie Kelly for 45 years. She is now my candle and my guidepost and I shall sorely miss my dear friend.

Dear Cathy & Family,
I just saw your Mother at my Mother's wake in February after many years. I'm glad I had the chance to visit with her. She always had kind words and was a dear friend to my Mother. She will be missed by the community as well. My thoughts are with you.

My sympathy to the entire Kelly family. Marie always had a kind word and pleasant smile for all around her and was more concerned about everyone but herself. She made us laugh and always left sunshine when she departed. A very wonderful and special woman, she will be sadly missed.

I went to high school with Laurie, and so met Marie a very long time ago. Laurie and I were responsible for some of Marie's gray hair in our youth. I remember Marie as someone who was always smiling. It was such a natural expression for her. I haven't seen Marie in many years, but Laurie remains one of my closest friends, so I have kept up with Marie's amazing life through Laurie.
I have no doubt that Marie is still smiling, having made her way so beautifully to Heaven. I express my sincerest condolences to the family, and to my dear friend Laurie. I am sending a hug, and will see you when I arrive in Syracuse soon. Much love.

"Well, that mother, she got older. One day she called up her son and said, "You'd better come see me because I'm very old and sick." So her son came to see her. The son went to his mother. And he sang this song:
I'll love you forever,
I'll like you for always,
As long as I'm living
my Mommy you'll be."
From Love You Forever by Robert Munsch
My heartfelt sympathy to the Kelly family.
