Obituary of Mary Joan Wedemeyer

Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mary Joan Wedemeyer, 81, of Baldwinsville passed away Saturday, March 3, 2007 at Syracuse Home Association after a long illness. She was a resident of Baldwinsville for over fifty years. She was born on March 12, 1925 in Pottstown, PA. After graduating from nursing training she traveled to Ketchum, Idaho where she worked as an RN with her husband Dr. Robert Wedemeyer at the famed ski resort Sun Valley. They later moved to Baldwinsville in 1953 to set up his practice and raised three children. Mary Joan was very active in the Baldwinsville Ambulance Corp and worked by her husband’s side at his practice. She enjoyed skiing, tennis, and took many trips with her family to the Adirondacks and Maine, where she enjoyed one of her favorite past times, trout fishing. These past few years you would find Mary Joan enjoying the warmth of her back porch, overlooking her yard, engrossed in one of her many novels or working on jigsaw puzzles. She is survived by her three children Robert, better known as Rusty (Paula) Wedemeyer of Tucson, Susan (James) Cuddy of Baldwinsville, and Jeff (Claire) Wedemeyer of Baldwinsville and six grandchildren, Erin, Matt, Dan, Meghan, Casey, and the newest arrival, in January, Anna. She will always be fondly remembered for her quick wit, independence, and of course, the “don’t throw that away, we will find a use for it” motto. Mary Joan, known to her children as “Muz”, will be sadly missed, but will always be loved and in our thoughts. Private services will be held. Burial will be in the spring at St. Mary’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make any donations to the Syracuse Home Foundation, 7740 Meigs Road, Baldwinsville, NY, 13027-9757.
