Obituary of Richard W. Gaudern

Richard W. Gaudern was born in Bryan, Ohio on March 5, 1915, the son of Cora Patton and Edward Gaudern. The family moved to Pompey Center Rd., Manlius in 1920. After being educated in Manlius and Cazenovia Schools, he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps and worked for two years in Montana developing Glacier National Park. Richard rowed for Syracuse University for four years on the Men’s Heavyweight Crew, coached by Jim Ten Eyck. Shortly after graduation from SU, he joined Syracuse China where he was the purchasing and transportation manager for 32 years. He was later in charge of purchasing for the Liverpool School District. Richard lived in Baldwinsville for 61 years where he was involved in many community projects from the Theater Guild to the Presbyterian Church. He was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Margaret Lenz Gaudern. Survivors: his wife Martha Kerr Strain Gaudern; children, Susan Gaudern Lott, Frederic Bannister Gaudern, and Martha Gaudern Wheaton; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Calling hours will be 5-7pm Monday, June 26, 2006, at Falardeau Funeral Home, 93 Downer St., Baldwinsville. A service for family and friends will be held in late summer at Richard’s home, “Red Oak”. Contributions: In lieu of flowers to Hospice of CNY, 990 7th North St., Liverpool, NY 13088-6148.
