Philip S. “Foots” Marotta, 80, of Syracuse died Tuesday, September 7, 2004 at Vivian Teal Nursing Home after a 2 year stay. Born in Solvay on March 30, 1924, he was the son of Guiseppie and Angelina Marotta. A resident of Baldwinsville he resided at St. Mary’s Apartments. Philip was an Army Veteran in the 87th Infantry Division during WWII, and survived the Battle of of the Bulge. Later he was employed by the US Postal for several years. Philip also worked for Excelsior Insurance and was employed by Barnes monuments in Baldwinsville. In his retired years he volunteered at the Knights of Columbus Bingo Hall in Baldwinsville, the Beaver Lake Nature Center and the Board of Elections. Philip was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, Baldwinsville and VFW of Solvay. He is predeceased by his sisters, Rose Zagarella and Angelina Peterson and his brothers Joseph Marotta Umberto Marotta. Residents and the staff at Vivian Teal express their fondness. The family thanks the nursing home for the attentiveness and care of Philip. Survivors: two brothers, Mike (Helen) Marotta of Arkansas City, Kansas and Salvatore (Rose) Marotta of Syracuse; a sister, Geraldine Zoanetti of Solvay; and several nephews, nieces. Services: 9:00am Saturday, September 11, 2004 at St. Mary's Church, Baldwinsville. Burial, Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Syracuse.
