Obituary of Hilary C. Nortz

Hilary C. Nortz, 84, formerly of Baldwinville, NY, died Sunday at his residence in Hilton Head Island, SC. Hilary, “Coon” to many of his friends, lived in Croghan and Black River, NY, before residing in the Syracuse area for over 40 years. Hilary was a communicant of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Baldwinsville and served as usher for several years. He proudly served in the U. S. Navy during World War II as Chief Electrician’s Mate, then worked for and subsequently retired from Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation, Power Control after over 40 years of service to the company. Hilary was active in the Black River Volunteer Fire Dept., model airplane construction and operation, square dancing, camping, golfing and was a member of the Baldwinsville VFW. Hilary was predeceased by his wife Dorothy Burk Nortz in 1966 and Katherine O’Connell Nortz in March of this year. Survivors: two daughters, Valerie (William) Kelly of Hilton Head Island, SC and Judy (Jud) Hammon of Orinda, CA; three sons, Jack (Nancy) Nortz of Oklahoma City, OK, Joseph (Sarah) Nortz of Clyde Hill, WA and Jay Nortz of Syracuse, NY; 13 grandchildren; two stepchildren, Daniel (Barbara) O’Connell and Terry (Cheryl) O’Connell; 4 step grandchildren; a sister, Ellen Zimmer of Rochester, NY ; five brothers, Richard Nortz of Greenacres, FL, Thomas (Ellen) Nortz of Croghan, NY, Harry (Marie) Nortz of Croghan, NY, Eugene (Patricia) Nortz of Croghan, NY, Edward (Dorothea) Nortz of Youngstown, NY; several nieces and nephews; extended family member, Luzmaria (Jenaro) Simpson of Washington, DC. Services: 9:00am Saturday, July 10, 2004 at St. Mary's Church Baldwinsville. Burial, St. Mary's Cemetery, DeWitt.
