Obituary of George C. Baker

George C. Baker entered into eternal rest on August 1, 2003 at the Vivian Teal Howard Residential Health Care Facility in Syracuse. He was 88 and would have celebrated his 89th birthday August 7th. Mr. Baker was a life resident of Baldwinsville, graduating from Baldwinsville Academy in 1934. He joined his father and brothers in the family tin smithing business until enlisting in the Army Air Corps in 1942. He attended technical schools in Missouri, Tennessee and South Dakota to prepare him as a radio operator/repairman. Mr. Baker served on active duty in the China, India, Burma Theater flying the "hump". The C-47 planes in which he flew were transports, but saw much combat action while navigating the dangerous terrain and treacherous weather conditions. He rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant and was honorably discharged in 1945, a highly decorated soldier. He worked at the U.S.Postal Department on mail trains out of Buffalo, then as a troubleshooter on the line at General Electric. After leaving GE, he stared his own T.V. and radio repair service. Mr. Baker was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He is survived and was lovingly cared for by his niece, Nancy C. Kellar and her husband Roderick of Baldwinsville and a grandniece, Kristen Kellar of Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. Also surviving are several other nieces and nephews. Services: 3:00pm Monday, August 4, 2003 at the Falardeau Funeral Home, Baldwinsville with Rev. Kenneth Blyth from St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Baldwinsville officiating. Interment in Riverview Cemetery, Baldwinsville. Calling hours are Monday 1:00pm - 3:00pm prior to the services at the funeral home, 93 Downer Street. Contributions: Disabled American Veterans, 344 W.
