I just found out about Dick's passing today when the Messenger arrived in the mail. How ironic, another example of the circle of life (seems to happen more the older I get)! The photo on the front cover of Dick with Jay Dunlap and Al Baker is exactly how I remember him. It has been decades since I saw Dick, but I vividly remember him as a kind and powerful influence in my early days in the advertising business. With my one-room office right down the street, he allowed me to use the facilities at Brown Newspapers for $25 week to design ads for clients I had (not too many) and finally got (quite a few). He was wise enough to gently kick me out of Brown, telling me it was the only way I would really grow my business. He was right, of course, and 38 years later I remember his wisdom and his gentle (but firm)delivery of the message as if it happened yesterday. A thoughtful mentor, he saw what I didn't at the time - that I had to ultimately make my own way. I was taking the easy way out by staying longer than I needed to, taking advantage of his kindness without much thought. It was time to fly, and he was kicking me out of the nest! Dick delivered the news kindly (but firmly) and in an encouraging shared his opinion that this was the only way I could build a real future for myself. I am choked up remembering him today as I write these words, surprising myself by the emotions that have been touched by the news of his passing. Thanks, Dick, for believing in me and directing a headstrong, ambitious kid to the right path. God bless you, you'll be missed and always fondly remembered as long as long as this "seasoned" adman is still kicking around!

Dick was a most genial member of our small community of seniors, never failing to greet each and all by name at various functions here. His friendliness was contagious, adding much to any occasion. We all knew of his widespread community involvement, too and admired his accomplishments. I feel a special gratitude for his no small part in bringing about this comfortable place in which to spend my senior years. I'll remember Dick Manville and extend my condolences to Carol and others of the family.

I just learned of Dicks passing today, just after the funeral and I am so sorry I missed both the calling hours and the funeral. I work for Community Development and have known Dick for about 30 years and have always really liked him. He was a gentleman, pleasant, very likeable, and hard-working. He was committed to his family, his work, and even to his volunteer work. He served on the Community Development Steering Committee since its inception in 1975, and was its President for many of those years. He served on the Board of our Housing Development Fund Company since its inception in the early 1990s, and was President for most of those years. We will all miss him and the contribution he made to Community Development.
I will miss our chatting about Cape Cod, where I often visited family. I will miss him, most of all, because he was a really good person.
My sympathies to his wife, Carol, his five kids, and to the rest of his family, whom he obviously loved dearly.

Carol and family, Our sympathies on Dick's passing. I enjoyed serving with him on several committees and especially at Syracuse Home and McHarrie Life. He was always an active member of the boards and contributed his years of knowledge and experience to the rest of us. I will miss the discussions we had about a variety of topics before and after the meetings. He was one of the people who made Baldwinsville such a great place to live and work.

Dick was like a father to me and I know he thought highly of me too since he told my parents often. He brought me into the fold of Brown Newspapers through a school program and offered me a job when the stint was done. He later told me if I had walked in off the street he probably never would have hired me. In just a few short years there he pulled me into his office and said he was making me the boss of production but was not going to tell anyone since the older folks would not take kindly to one so young as a boss. He wanted to take a break and be in his office downstairs more and devote time to the business. Still there after 38 years! I will really miss such a kind, thoughtful, wonderful man. He gave me a chance in life and I can not thank him enough! My sympathies to his whole family. At one time or another they all worked there and it was s pleasure. Dick made all us feel like FAMILY .. It wasn't a job we went to each day. Many of us still stay in contact where that is so uncommon in the present work life. Rest in peace and know you are loved and missed by many ....
