Marilyn D. Martin, 87, of Baldwinsville, NY, died August 5, 2014 at Syracuse Home. Mrs. Martin was born in Syracuse, NY, to Agnes L. and James E. Darmody. She was a graduate of Most Holy Rosary High School, where she was a cheerleader. Through the Parochial League, she met many life long friends, including her husband. Marilyn was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Norman J. Martin in 2010, and her brother James Darmody, in 2005. While raising her family, Marilyn pursued her interest in gardening and horticulture. She was a past president and member of Terrytown and Baldwinsville Garden Clubs. For decades, she entered exhibits at the New York State Fair and won numerous awards. She was a State certified horticulture judge, and attended Federated Garden Club functions nationwide. She was a lifelong sports fan, particularly of basketball, and closely followed the fortunes of her favorite local and college teams. She was an avid reader, and enjoyed sewing and her aerobics classes. Marilyn loved to travel, and visited dozens of countries and landmarks worldwide. She was a member of the Friendship Force International, an organization devoted to cultural exchange between the US and other nations, including China, Egypt, and Australia. She was a communicant of St Mary’s Church, Baldwinsville, NY where she served on the Altar and Rosary Society for many years, and volunteered through many other organizations in the Syracuse area. Marilyn is survived by her children, Melanie (Jim) Pendergast of Albuquerque, NM, Paul (Liz) Martin of Baldwinsville, and Patrick (Rebecca) Martin of Baldwinsville, grandchildren Shaun (Colleen) Pendergast and Casey (Becky) Pendergast, Colleen Martin and Taylor (Mike Fay) Martin, Connor and Jack Martin, and her brother, Ret. LTC William (Marilyn) Darmody. Calling Hours will be held at the Falardeau Funeral Home, 93 Downer St., Baldwinsville, Tuesday, Aug. 12, from 9 to 10:30 AM, Services: 11:00 am at St. Mary’s Church, Baldwinsville. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Baldwinsville. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Syracuse Home Foundation, 7740 Meigs Rd., Baldwinsville, NY 13027.
