Edith Frances Johnson Clover, 89, of Baldwinsville, NY, passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospital on Sunday, June, 1, 2014. Born in Rahway, NJ, on April 20, 1925, Edith was the only child of James Edward Hall Johnson and Edith Frances Philips. Edith married Raymond F. Clover Jr. on November 22, 1944. Edith held various jobs including the first women’s page editor at the Baldwinsville Messenger. After returning to college as a non-traditional student Edith earned degrees from Onondaga Community College, and Oswego State University of New York where she was also employed before entering the Baldwinsville School District as an innovator with alternative education and an English teacher. An active member of Grace Episcopal Church, she served as a lay person, a member of the Vestry, and provided spiritual support to those who were sick or in need for many years. A long standing member of the Baldwinsville Theater Guild, Edith also performed in several shows while working to promote the Theater Guild and the arts. Edith is survived by her daughter, Deborah Clover-Upson and her husband Bernard of Ithaca, NY; daughter Barbara Clover Barker and her husband Craig of Sprakers, NY; son George Clover of Baldwinsville; grandchildren Nathan Clover-Owens, Ryan Clover-Owens, Sarah DeLaney, Raymond DeLaney, Gabrielle Clover; and great grandchildren Brooke, Mya, and Geri. Edith was predeceased by her loving husband, Raymond F. Clover Jr. on May 9, 1982. A celebration of life and memorial service will be held at Grace Episcopal Church in Baldwinsville on Monday, June 16, 2014, at 3:00 pm with a reception following the service at the church. A graveside service will be at Boughton Hill Cemetery, in Victor, NY, at a later date. Contributions in her memory may be made to the Palliative Care Unit at St. Josephs Hospital or Grace Episcopal Church, 110 Oswego Rd., Baldwinsville, NY 13027.
