Ruth was my mother Helen's cousin, and so my "first cousin once removed", as she told me with the authority of her position as the family genealogist of her generation. She and Mom spent summers together as children, and were great friends as adults. I used to love Ruth's visits. She was smart, funny, energetic, and a wonderful storyteller. True to her love of children, she always had time for me when I was small. Her life was a blessing to many lives, including my own.
