Steve and I were very close buddies all through college and after until I moved in 1980. we were in several stage productions together including the Night Thoreau Spent in Jail and others. He was a good man with gentle ways and I a truly sorry he is gone. I will always remember the good partying times we had together. Especially drinking at the Irish bar near Trinity. I can remember his wedding and how they both looked so great.
So long from all your old buddies, Flea, Teee and Big Daddy, be seeing you.

To all the Root family. I am very sorry for your loss. I didn't get to know Steve as well as the others from the Sisson/Warrengton Ave bunch because I was a little bit younger, but I remember how calming and gentle of a person he was.

You left us all way too soon ~ our time/conversations regarding life - some four years ago now ~ I remember like it was yesterday - you had those who hurt you, relationship broken, frustration and now you are free from it all leaving them to live with their wrongs ~ I am a stronger person after meeting you and continue down the "path" ~
Thank you my friend!

A smile would come across my face whenever I would just hear his name. Steve was truly one of the "good guy's" in life. Bright, funny, immensely talented... I grew up with Steve in Hartford, and have too many great memories to ever fit in this space. I just wanted to say to his family and friend's, how lucky we all were to have him in our lives. He was a man for all season's... (Love you my brother)

“To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and to endure the betrayal of false friends. To appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to know that even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.”
― Ralph Waldo Emerson
You left the world a better place.

Remembered Joy
Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free!
I follow the plan God laid for me.
I saw His face, I heard His call,
I took His hand and left it all...
I could not stay another day,
To love, to laugh, to work or play;
Tasks left undone must stay that way.
And if my parting has left a void,
Then fill it with remembered joy.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss...
Ah yes, these things I, too, shall miss.
My life's been full, I've savoured much:
Good times, good friends, a loved-one's touch.
Perhaps my time seemed all too brief—
Don't shorten yours with undue grief.
Be not burdened with tears of sorrow,
Enjoy the sunshine of the morrow.

I met "Steve R." on Oct. 8, 2011, at Serenity Hall, my first meeting in Baldwinsville. We instantly connected - in what would become an ongoing, friendly rivalry - because I was wearing one of my many SU shirts and Steve was wearing one of his many UConn shirts. I could see the pride in his face and hear the joy in his voice whenever he shared something with us about his journey. I really looked forward to getting to know him better as time went on, but the God he loved had other plans.
May your happy memories -- especially of the last year or so -- sustain you during this difficult time. He was a good man who was always willing to help others, especially those of us who were new on the path.

I am standing on the seashore and a ship at my side spreads his white sails to the morning breeze and starts for the blue seas, he is a object of Beauty and Strength, I stand and watch until at last he is like a peck of a white cloud. Just where the sun and sky come down to mingle with each other. Then someone at my side says there he goes!
Gone where?
Gone only from my sight...that is all!
He is just as large in mast, hull, and spar as he was when he left my side.
His diminished size is in me, not him...
And just at that moment as someone at my side says "There he goes"
There are others eyes watching him come to the shore and other voices ready to take up glad shouts..."Here he comes!!"
