My sisters and I were Pearl and Carl's foster children in the 50's. They had the farm in Plainville and the later in Cato/Meridian and Wolcott area. Skip and his brother Bruce were living in Plainville at the same time. Pearl was there for many major events in our lives. She was the Rock of what a Mother should be. In our later life My husband Patrick and I lived coast to coast in a 35 ft.-5th wheel for over 4 yrs. Every year we would come to B'ville pull into her drive and park there for almost a month each year. After so many years she seemed smaller then I remember her when I was a child, I know she could put the fear of god in you if you did something wrong. She finally allowed me to actually Cook for her. I remember telling her how much I had tried to make popcorn taste like hers, she said" you can't do it" WHY??? because she used butter made at home that was almost ready to go rancid, (I know yucky) but trust me you haven't had anything better then her popcorn as a treat. On our visits with Pearl she always made you feel you had come HOME. Her HEART was so large. We would go to church services with her on Sunday and would get so embarrased when the minister would introduce her as his oldest member. She would take the old people on their errands and appts she would say to Pat and I. Nothing could or would keep her down. Her Daughter Eleanor, I CANNOT THANK YOU enough for your Generosity of sharing your Mother with us ALL THESE years. She is always in my heart and Thoughts. Coming back to B,ville in the future will feel a little less like home without Pearl being there. GOD NEEDED a SPECIAL lady to keep all those apprentice ANGEL,S in line and he finally called for the BEST and that is PEARL!!! She is going to be missed by MANY more then YOU can IMAGINE. Love to the family and friends gathering in her HONOR, I am sorry I cannot be there because of health at this time. I will look to the sky for the BRIGHTEST STAR in the EAST and there PEARL will Be. Rest now my SWEET Pearl, your work here on earth is over. You were the Rock and the BEST.

I have known Pearl for at least 80 years...my sister Ursula was her sister-in-law. Over the years, we had many a good time and lots of laughs. Though we didn't talk much these later years, I remember her very fondly. You lived a long life, Lady Pearl, and touched many with your kind heart. Rest in Peace...

Pearl was a very special person that will always have a place in my heart. As my sister Carol already stated, I too was a foster child of Pearl & Carl's while they lived on the farm. So many special memories of helping Pearl do canning, riding my cow into the barn, our blonde raccoon, baby deer, catching a barn bat for show & tell. Just wonderful memories of her in my childhood. In later years she loved sharing letters & pictures of my growing family and all about our life on our "mini farm". We often tried to get together when she & Ralph came to Arizona but we just couldn't connect. It was wonderful to see her again years later while settleing our grandmother, Mary LaPiene's affairs.Pearl has so many people that love her, and she will remain in our hearts forever.Rest now Pearl in Our Loving Father's" arms.

Pearl was one of the most wonderful woman in my life and the lives of many other children and adults. Although we didn't make it back to New York for her 100th birthday party we were there when she was honored at a special bbq./dinner in Plainville. My two sisters and I lived with Pearl as foster children when our parents were going through a very messy divorce in the 50's. We moved to CA in the early 60's and through the years she never failed to remember us with a birthday card, christmas card or a phone call.
Years later when I went back to New York to settle my grandmother's affairs she insisted that my sister's and I stay at her home rather than stay in a motel. She was so sweet and made sure that we were housed and well fed while we were there. She fixed dinner for us every night. We tried for several years to get her to come for a visit in CA but she said that had become too difficult for her to travel. She was without a doubt one of the most loving influential woman in my life and a wonderful role model and inspiration. We will miss you Pearl but I am happy that we had you in our lives for over 100 years.
Lovingly,
Carol (Lee) Stratton

Pearl was my mother's (Margaret Waite) favorite aunt and closest confidant. Mom loved her dearly and always talked about her with such fond memories. Right up until the end of my mother's life (in 2007), Pearl was there for her, visiting her in the nursing home and calling her on the telephone. It was an honor to have known Pearl, and to have been able to attend her 100th birthday celebration. She was indeed a special person--one that I will not soon forget. Peace and Hugs.
