I was very sad to hear of Franks death. I too remember him from the "old Fellowship Hall" on James Street. It was early in my recovery too. I remember he and Connie coming to our son's wedding in 1986, yes we go back a long ways. Frank visited us in our home and we always enjoyed his wit and wisdom. His "very good, very good". We moved away from the Syracuse area and I only phoned him once since then. I thought he would always be there. Now I'm very sad.It was good to read all the nice things his friends posted here. He was loved.

I always loved Frank. I've been struggling with my addiction for a few years, but I'm thankfully clean and sober, now. He may have seemed to have a hard exterior, but underneath it all he was a great big teddy bear that cared for everyone that walked into those Tully Hill doors. He had such a sense of humor, and I'll never forget on my first day back my second time in when he saw me back (I was crying and really upset and felt like a complete failure) he looked me straight in the eye and said, "What the hell are you doing here?" in that tone of voice of his, looking all serious, and it made me laugh. He had such great wisdom of the struggles addicts go through with this disease and was the first to share his experiences. "It took me 6 times before I finally got it" he would often say. To me, and the other strugglers. And I'll never forget the one thing that would always bring out his mushy side... Seaweed. R.I.P. to her as well. Even after retirement he just couldn't stay away from helping fellow addicts. I love you Frank, we all do.
Love,
Erica, 3 time veteren of Tully Hill Inpatient

I met Frank in early recovery and he always had a quick wit and a helpful message to most who he encountered. What I loved about Frank the most, was his ability to spend quality time with people from ALL walks of life and treat them all on the same level playing field. At the old Fellowship Hall, he would hang out with "Tall Sue" and "Old Connie" saying hello to all who came through the doors and always a "Very Good" uttered from his lips, thus his nickname, "Very Good Frank" to some of us old timers from 3014 James Street Fellowship Hall - may you rest in peace, Frank.

Additional things to know about Frank: He served with distinction, honor and pride in Viet Nam. He loved Deadwood and The Godfather...he cherished his vintage Jag, and he was SU basketball's most ardent(rabid) fan. He was the soul of Tully Hill and a profoundly gifted therapist. He made me laugh...day in and day out, he made me laugh. A gruff exterior betrayed by a generous spirit, he touched everyone in his orbit. We are made poorer by not having recognized the hole in HIS heart in time, but richer just by knowing him.

One of my earliest memories is of Frank. As the years went by Frank was always there and it was always a joy to see him. As time went on Frank became important in my life in ways I didn't even realize. When my father passed Frank and I had a long talk.Because of their friendship he was some tangible piece of my father that I could still actually talk to. Frank knew that and he helped me through that time. Frank cared for so many and touched so many over the years and I'm certainly within that group. I have lost someone important to me and I shall miss him greatly.

Clarity, acceptance and humor best describe my 15+ yrs. of friendship with Frank Holser. I have yet to meet anyone quite like him and am deeply saddened to learn of his passing. His words ring as clear in my mind today as if he just said them. We have lost a genuine compassionate leader who I will never forget.
My thoughts and prayers go to Frank's family, friends and all those who were touched by his insightful communication.
