I am so saddened to hear of Joanie "the bologna lady"'s death. I didn't know she was sick. She always had a smile on her face and knew most of the deli customers by name and what they ordered. There is a great loss to this community.
Please accept my deepest thougts and prayers to all of her family. She will be greatly missed. Rest In Peace dear Joanie, Rest In Peace!

I couldn't believe the news when I heard today. My deepest condolences go out to her family. I remember working with her at the deli in B'ville. Such a warm heart and great spirit. We always would do princess waves to each other every time we saw the other. I will forever remember her smile! May the sweet woman now rest in peace.

Joan was a very special lady. She always had a smile on her face and always seemed to know when things weren't right with you. She would ask you what was bothering you and you would just open up and confide in her. A lot of us at the store called her "Joannie" and she gave me the nickname of "Frosty" because of my years in the frozen department. I use to love working in my aile and have her walk by and say, "morning Frosty". We missed her when she retired and then prayed for her after learning of her illness. A while after her operation and when she was strong enough, she made a visit to the store and for what was the last time I heard, "hi Frosty". What a joy it was to see "Joannie" again. We shared a few words and a hug. I am so greatful to have spent those few moments with her. There aren't a lot of people in the work place that you truly enjoy seeing day after day, but Joan was one of them. Joannie, you have been missed. May Peace be with you now and forever.- Frosty

To the family of Joan,
Our family has shopped at P&C for ten years now. I didn't really get to know Joan until my daughter Olivia met her when she asked for some cheese and salami from the deli. Olivia had grown very fond of Joan and Joan of her. Joan always came out from behind the deli to give Olivia her cheese and salami and chat with her and Olivia always gave her a big hug. We prayed for her when we found out of her illness. We will miss her smiling face but know that she is at peace. God bless you and your family.

"Joanie Balonie" is such a very special lady.
My Son Nicholas and Joanie had a very special bond - that of course started at the deli many years ago. Nicholas and Joanie would hide on each other in the store, and always a smile on their faces when they saw each other. Joanie always remembered Nicholas on his birthday, as we did hers. He was a like a grandchild to her.
My heart is so saddened and we will miss her dearly.
God has another Angel who is watching over us and Joanie is once again smiling and free of pain.
How blessed all of us are who had the opportunity to know Joanie.
Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you.
We love you Joan!

I only knew Joan from shopping at P&C but she was always very sweet to my son and made sure he had a small bag of pepperoni while he was shopping either with myself or with my mother and sister. I appreciate that she took the time to remember the regular customers. She always greeted you with a smile and a hello and made going to the deli counter enjoyable.
She also worked for several years with my sister Laura Hudson. Please accept the deepest condolences on behalf of my family.

It was with deep sadness we read about Joan this morning. We always enjoyed seeing her at P & C when we shopped there. I ran into her and her sister a few months ago at the lab and was surprised to hear of her illness. She had such a wonderful personality and beautiful smile.

When I heard that Joan had gone out of work for retirement, I was saddened to not see her at the store anymore. Was even more saddened to hear of her cancer diagnosis. She gave it the good fight. I will miss her calming demeanor, smile and sense of humor.
My deepest sypathies to your family. Joan will be missed by many but never forgotten.
