Carol A. Roppel, 61, of Baldwinsville, died October 31, 2009 at Syracuse Home, Baldwinsville, after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, and grandmother. Born in Brooklyn, NY, she graduated from S. H. Calhoun High School in Merrick, NY. She received a B.S. from SUNY College at Oneonta and an M.S. in Reading from SUNY, Fredonia. She retired in 2007, from Baldwinsville Central School District after teaching there for 25 years. She was a member of the Baldwinsville Teachers Association, Syracuse Home Association Auxiliary, the Female Charitable Society, and Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Oswego. She was pre-deceased by her parents Walter and Florence (Johnsen) Gadeberg. Carol is survived by her husband of 39 years, The Rev. Dr. David Roppel, a son Jonathan (Mary) Roppel of Baldwinsville, a daughter Kirsten “Bekah” Roppel of Elbridge, five grandsons: Jonathan, Jr., Caspian, Gregory, Joshua, and Joseph, her brother Craig (Karen) Gadeberg of Corinna, ME, and her sister-in-law, Alice (Richard) Carter of Gales Ferry, CT, a nephew and three nieces. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church, Camillus at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 3, 2009. Burial will be at Riverview Cemetery in Baldwinsville at the convenience of the family. Calling hours will be held at the Falardeau Funeral Home from 4-7 p.m. on Monday, November 2, 2009. Contributions in Carol’s memory may be made to BCSD Scholarship Fund, Maureen’s Hope, ELCA World Hunger, ELCA Fund for Leaders, or Syracuse Home Association.
