Jeff and Mike - We're not sure if you remember us from your high school days, but we heard about your dad from our mom who happens to go to the same hairdresser as yours (small world), and wanted to express our condolences. We lost our dad last September and know how difficult, and often surreal, this time can be. Please express our sympathy to your entire family and know that our thoughts are with you all.
Take care,
Maureen and Geri McCarthy

Dear Marlene and family,
My deep condolences to all. Don was a wonderful man and I will carry lots of great memories of him in my heart until my dying day--including quite a few lunches where we commiserated on S.U. sports and other lesser world issues. A kind, compassionate, generous and genuine man who made a difference in my life and countless others.
My deepest sympathy and appreciation

Dear Marlene & the entire Herring Family,
You lost a great husband, father and leader of the Herring Family. We all lost a true worker, servant, leader and friend.
Our heart-felt sadness goes out to you for the loss of Don. We had many Kiwanis escapades together. He was a tremendous, gentle man with a dry sense of humor.
He did the Diviion proud serving as a Distinguished Governor in 2007-08 & served the NY District Foundation selflessly.
I'll never forget all the car rides he took with me when I successfully ran for NY District Governor in 1998 and how well he helped with my campaign. I am sure Jeff's meatballs and pasta clinched the election for me.
Don will surely be missed by the entire Kiwanis family and I can only say that our family prayers will go out to all of you during this difficult time of adjustment.
Virginia & Joe Eppolito

There was so much that I admired about!

To Marlene and Don's family, In the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson : "To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intellegent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded."
May you take comfort in knowing that Don's life was surely successful.

To the Herring family, I am saddened to learn of Don's passing. He was a terrific guy. We talked a lot of basketball over the years and, as a coach, I always found him most supportive. He and Mrs. Herring raised three fine sons, all whom I call friends. Don made his mark in this world and will be missed.
