Michelle I just had to share this with you honey. I attended grandma's wake/viewing last night and it was the most beautiful, personal rite of passage I have ever seen.
I had the feeling we were celebrating Leona's LIFE not her death. I know this is what you were going for and girl you nailed it! Grandma was there with us, hugging "Gladys," and enjoying her poetry reading.
You are my hero, your strength and graciousness are truly a tribute to your grandmothers influence in your life. I love you, Cindy

The Rose Beyond the Wall
Near shady wall a rose once grew,
Budded and blossomed in God's free light, Watered and fed by the morning dew,
Shedding it's sweetness day and night.
As it grew and blossomed fair and tall,
Slowly rising to loftier height,
It came to a crevice in the wall
Through which there shone a beam of light.
Onward it crept with added strengh
With never a thought of fear or pride,
It followed the light through the crevice's length
And unfolded itself on the other side.
The light, the dew, the broadening view
Were found the same as they were before,
And it lost itself in beauties new,
Breathing it's fragrance more and more.
Shall claim of death cause us to grieve
And make our courage faint and fall?
Nay! Let us faith and hope receive--
The rose still grows beyond the wall,
Scattering fragrance far and wide
Just as it did in days of yore,
Just as it did on the other side,
Just as it will forevermore.
From the writings of A.L. Frink
I was very touched by all the loving thoughts and words shared here about Aunt Leona, and saddened that I have not seen her since I was a young child. I just want to say that from all I have read, she was an amazing woman, and will be greatly missed. May God bless you. Stephanie Tifft

Michelle has been in my life for over twenty years. She is the sister that I never had and is exactly what I wanted if I had one. Just like her Grandma, she is sweet, kind, loving and no matter what she has unconditional love. Like her Gram could count on Michelle, so have I. I have leaned on her strength and wisdom and now I hope that she can lean on me. I love you Michelle so much, with all my heart, you are an incredibly special person in my life. My life wouldn't be complete without you and your Gram's life wouldn't have been complete without you either. Chin up young person, you are so strong and courageous, don't lose that, you will always have me, with all my love sis.

My grandma was a loving, spiritual Angel in my life. I have great childhood memories of times spent at my grandparents home. The family gatherings, holidays, spending the night, going to the beach, raiding grandma's cookie jar. Lots of hugs and kisses were always available, laughing, singing and many wonderful stories of days gone by..........these memories will remain a cherished part of my life!
I CELEBRATE her life!
I HONOR her soul!
I CHERISH the memories!
Until we meet again! Love, Laurie

Michelle, Jason, & Family,
I am sorry to hear about the loss of your Grandmother. From the stories I have heard and all the posts listed below, she sounds like an incredible person. One you would have been blessed to have met. It is times like this when we must look back on all of these fond memories and bring each others spirits up. It sounds like the type of thing Leona would have been doing herself! Michelle, you are in my prayers and know that I am here for you.

I only got to know Leona the last year of her life, but her spirit will always be with me. We had many visits together and I so enjoyed our conversations. She loved to talk about her years growing up and all the adventures she had been through. Leona loved her family and was especially grateful for Michele, I have never seen a prouder grandmother. Leona you will be missed and I am glad you are now at peace.

I am so glad she got to come to the "barn partys" at my home. She was so beautiful inside and out. She loved loved loved her Michelle. So now Michelle you have one more angel looking over you. May Leona rest in peace, actually she's probably more into dancing in peace. Cindy

Madge & Jason,
God saw that she was getting tired and a cure was not meant to be, so he put his arms around her and whispered "come with me" with Tearful eye you watched her suffer and watched her fade away although you loved her dearly you could not make her stay. Her golden heart stopped beating and a warm loving heart to rest. God broke your heart to prove to you he only takes the best. (CW)
She will be missed but never forgotten.

Leona is the grandmother of my friend and co-worker Michelle Dellilo. I know Leona had a a major influence on Michelle in teaching her the values of love for God and respect for all people, as well as responsibility that comes with the great gift of freedom offered in our country. Leona loved her country and defended it's values. She will be missed as a citizen and a friend to many.
