I've known Susie for 20 years and always looked forward to spending time with her on my trips back to Liverpool. She became a good friend and confidant who helped me get through some tough times in my life.
Susie was a Maverick who "called a Spade a Spade" and her straight talk coupled with a wonderful sense of humor served her well.
To all of Susie's family and friends, I share your loss and will miss her very much.

Dear Family, We were saddened to hear about Susie. We had tried to come to the funeral parlor but the line ourside was so long and it was so cold out.
Susie will be missed by many friends, and those who she only came in contact with briefly. She will always be remembered.

I used to work at Baker High School with Sue. When I think of her, I can't help having a smile on my face. She could make us laugh, but she also was known for speaking her mind.

I had Mrs. Higginbotham for my accounting and advance accounting classes at Baker High School. I always looked forward to walking into her classroom unsure of what would be happening. We had several days in class where we got to bring in bagels and doughnuts but a lot of the time we forgot. Mrs. H. always had our back and would bring the whole class in bagels. She always had a wonderful smile and just being around her brightened up my day. She always knew how to keep it real no matter what. She would tell you like it was even if you didnt want to hear it. I think that is what made Mrs. H. so fun to be around. I was never sure of what she was going to say. She helped support all of her students and help lead the way to my future as well as many others. I am sorry for your loss.

I met Sue several years ago. I knew of her as a teacher but didn't really know her until I was introduced to her by my ex-wife. I was immediately drawn to her very outgoing personality. She made me laugh. She was a very honest person. You could ask her anything and she would give you an honest answer. Ask her for an opinion and you got an honest opinion. No sugar coating ,just honesty. That is what I liked most about her. I was shocked and very saddened when I found out what had happened.
Thank you Sue for all that you have done for me. You will be missed.

I met Susie 10 years ago when I was a part-time teacher in Baldwinsville. I remember seeing her many mornings as I walked into Baker High School. She always had a ready smile and made me feel welcomed. On occasion we would chat for a few minutes and she would tell me about herself and school. Even though are exchanges were brief they left a lasting impression on me because of her warmth and sincerity.
In reading the comments of others she was a no nonsense person with a very big heart. She has made a lasting impression and difference to the Baldwinsville Community far beyond what she probably knew just by being herself.
My thoughts and prayers are with all of her family at this most difficult time. Words cannot convey all the love that is in the hearts of those who knew her as a friend, a neighbor, a teacher or a colleague. A wonderful person has left us. May we carry on her legacy of caring and loving in memory of her as she watches us from above.

Mrs. Higginbotham and I crossed paths in the halls of Baker High School and I also had the opportunity to have her as my teacher in accounting my senior year in high school during the 1984/1985 school year. I had to be taken out of school for a month that year due to a back injury I sustained. My school work was brought home to me and if anyone remembers accounting, you had a very overwhelming packet to work on for homework. Well, the instructions from Mrs. Higginbotham when I received this packet while I was recovering at home were that if I had any trouble with the packet that I could let her know and she would come to my house to help me with the packet. Fortunately, I was an excellent math student and did not need the help. However, I was always moved to know that a teacher would care that much about a student to go above and beyond thier duties. If you knew Mrs. Higginbotham at all, you knew this about her.
She was the type of teacher (as I am sure she was the same type of person) that always gave it to you straight. She would support you however she could if she knew it would help you get to your goal. As has been stated in another message here, she usually had a smile on her face. I remember in her class and when I would see her in the halls interacting with other students. She would either be casually discussing something with students or she would be reprimanding them for not doing the right thing, whether it be in her class or in general. She was the type of teacher who would not take anything from her students who gave her a hard time. You always knew she meant business. On the other hand, if you needed her for whatever reason, she was right there to lend a listening ear or a helping hand.
Mrs. Higginbotham always went above and beyond for students, even if they weren't in her classes. She is to be an example to all teachers that you do make a difference in the lives of students and you do have an impact on their lives. Mrs. Higginbotham's impact on my life was that she cared about me when I thought no one cared and she certainly helped me to succeed in math. I am sure she would be proud to know that when I went onto Business School that I did not have to take my accounting final in the first year as I had a 98 average in the class.
I am sure that my words do not do justice to Mrs. Higginbotham but I know that she will be missed in the hearts of many, as her spirit has touched the lives of many.
To her family, I offer my prayers for all of you and know that she will always be with you in your hearts.
Love, light, peace, and bright blessings to you all.

Back in the late 80`s when I was a student at Baker High School, I had Mrs Higginbotham. She always had a grin on her face as she looked over her students. I dreaded typing class where Mrs H. was the teacher. I always looked forward to seeing Mrs H. as her smile always lit up the room. If she only knew that I could actually type now.
I was saddened to hear of your passing. Bless you and your family, rest in peace.

Mrs. Higginbotham wasn't one of my teachers, but she did chaperone our class trip to Florida in 1985. She was so much fun! We laughed and had a great time. She had a great deal of respect and trust for us on that trip, and she made the difference in how much we enjoyed ourselves.

All of us have one of those people that when you sit back you laugh about. You don't laugh about them because of the clothes they wear but you laugh with them. We all have someone that we have met, loved, cherished, worshipped, admired or just someone who just inspired you.
I had one of those people. Her name was Mrs. Higginbotham. I will never forget this lady as long as I live. She reminds me of Judge Judy. Straight to the point. She was my 9th grade Business Math teacher first. I so remember her one day telling a kid Terry that he was an idiot. I not only was in shock that a teacher would call a student an idiot but I found myself respecting her more because she spoke the truth. After 3 weeks of school Mrs. Higginbotham was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. She was replaced (for the time being while getting chemo) by Mrs. Harshburger. I passed that class.
I failed 2 classes my senior year. Meaning I didn't graduate with my class. I was in Georgia at the time and couldn't go to summer school. When I returned to NY I called the school and found out I failed Accouting (no big surprise) and Economics. I asked the counselor if I could pick my teachers. I was told yes. I picked Mr. Baker for Economics and Mrs. Higginbotham for Accounting. I knew in my heart I needed her as my teacher. I passed her class with an A. An A that I deserved but also an A that earned because of her teaching.
As I sit here writing this I remember something really funny about Mrs. H. I was on the swim team in high school. We were going against Liverpool at Liverpool.. Mrs. H was one the I don't know what. I don't know if one of her kids were swimming so she was the parent or if she was a judge. I just remember seeing her there and saying Hi. I was swimming the 100 meter freestyle. I was in the lead but extremely tired. Instead of doing the flip turn I just grabbed the wall and turned. I lost that match. I got out of the pool only to see Mrs. H waiting for me. She had a smirk on her face. She looked at me and said "Why ever you didn't do the right turn is beyond me. I will get you in class."
To me that wasn't an insult. She didn't make me feel bad this was her personality. She was hard but fair. She than and now have my upmost respect. If I could do high school again I would only to wish I could have her as a teacher again.
To her family. I can't imagine what you are going through. I know what my heart is going through and she wasn't family/friend. She was my hero.
I wrote this on my myspace page. I can remove it if you want me too. I just wanted the family to see what most of her students thought of her.

To Mrs. Higginbotham's Family. Please accept my deepest condolences. I haven't see Mrs. Higginbotham in a few years since I am usually in town during the summer. I remember all the times I was home I would stop at the high school to say hi. I would sit down and tell Mrs. H what I had been up to for the past year.
Mrs. H you have a heart of gold. I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for being the best teacher I ever had. You will truly be missed.
