Obituary of Elizabeth G. Russell

Elizabeth G. Russell, 95, of Peoria, AZ, and long-time resident of the greater Syracuse, NY area, died on November 6, 2008 in Arizona. Mrs. Russell was born in Baldwinsville, NY to the late James and Frances Gere. She graduated from Baldwinsville Academy and The College of Fine Arts at Syracuse University. Mrs. Russell was a member of the Syracuse Pastimes Club and a past President of the Junior League and Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. She enjoyed painting, tennis, and fishing, particular with her family at Wolfe Island in the 1000 Islands. An avid golfer, she was Champion of the Syracuse District Golf Association and held memberships at Bellevue & Drumlins Golf Courses, along with El Cid Golf & Country Club in Mazathlon, Mexico where she wintered for 30 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Russell, and previous husbands, Charles Monnier and Frederick H. Flaherty II. She was also preceded in death by one son, Frederick H. Flaherty III, one grandson, James E. Flaherty, and three sisters, Marjorie Cloyes, Jean Meacham and Barbara Brown. Survivors include one son, Peter C. Flaherty of Cleveland, NY; one daughter, Susan G. Flaherty of Camden, NY; 4 grandchildren, Frederick H. Flaherty IV of Altamont, NY, Christopher F. Flaherty of Alexandria, VA, Michael R. Flaherty of Essex, MD, and Jean Flaherty Converse of Severna Park, MD; five great grandchildren, Cole, Carli, Natalie, Tim, and Nick; and several step relatives from the Russell family. A memorial service will be held at 11:00am Saturday November 22, 2008 at Falardeau Home, 93 Downer St., Baldwinsville, NY 13027. Internment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Arizona, 2222 W. Northern Ave., Ste. A-100, Phoenix, AZ 85021.
