Obituary of Edward John Kalin
Edward John “Badger” Kalin, a retired Onondaga County Sheriff's Deputy of 33 years, and a lifelong resident of Syracuse, died peacefully with his loving family by his side on September 9, 2022. He was 62 years of age.
Born in 1960, he is predeceased by his parents Edward A. and Carol (Mahan) Kalin and his sister, Cheryl Ann.
Ed loved the wind in his face while riding his Harley and would cast lines for hours trying to get a fish to bite. An enthusiastic gearhead, Ed was constantly tinkering with something. If it was wired or had an engine, he loved it. A great father with an unmatched sense of humor involving mostly bad jokes and dank memes, Ed was always up for a laugh. Whether it was a t-shirt or a headband, Ed always rolled with the punches to add to the fun.
We were honored to have him in our lives.
Ed is survived by his wife, Maurina, and their two children, Noah and Aidan; his former wife, Carmella Kalin, and their two children, David (Bethany) Kalin, and Christina (Josh Meyers) Kalin; his grandchildren, Mya, Isaiah, Eva, and Audrey Kalin Meyers (expected to arrive in November).
Affectionately called Jack by his family since he was child, Ed is also survived by his siblings Kathryn M. (David Torrey) Kalin, William J. (Maria Falcone) Kalin, Amy K. Kinsella, Kayla M. Nolan, and Elaine A. Kalin. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be on Monday, September 12, 2022 from 4 to 7 pm at Northside Church located at 7965 Oswego Road, Liverpool. Funeral Service will immediately follow at 7 pm. Ed’s family invites you to dress casual; jeans and t-shirts welcome, Harley apparel optional.
