Robert E. VanderBerg, 87 of Baldwinsville, Passed away on Feb. 4, 2021. Our Fathers Heart and Soul was dedicated to the Baldwinsville fire department for 70 years. He was Fire Chief for 8 years. He was the recipient for the Medal of Heroism in recognition of his attempt to save a child in the Seneca River. In 1977 He received the Chamber of Commerce Man of the year Award. He started the Underwater Recovery Team and helped organize the Junior Fire Department. He received many Honors from the Department during his long career. Dad was very proud of receiving the Title of Chief Emeritus upon retiring from the department. He spent three years in Korea as a Marine Sargent. Robert is survived by his wife Kathy, married for 70 years, 2 children: Robin (Jim) Mignogna, John (Pam) VanderBerg, 5 Grandchildren: Justin, Johnathan and Daniel VanderBerg, Alicia Titus and David Mignogna, and 8 Great Grandchildren. Calling hours will be held from 5-8 PM, Tuesday, Feb. 8 at Falardeau Funeral Home, 93 Downer St. Baldwinsville. A Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, Feb. 9, 10 AM at the funeral home with burial to follow in Riverview Cemetery. In lieu of Flowers, Donations would be Greatly Appreciated for the Baldwinsville Fire Department or the Greater Baldwinsville Ambulance Corp.
