Obituary of Paul Thomas Cooney

Paul Thomas Cooney, 90, passed away peacefully Monday, September 27. He was born in 1930 in his aunt's house in Ripley, NY to Patrick and Margaret (Smith) Cooney. He lived 14 years in Cuyahoga Falls, OH, then moved to a dairy farm in Clymer, NY. Paul served in the US Airforce from 1949 – 1953. He graduated from SUNY Oswego in 1957, then worked for General Electric in the Industrial Design and Development Lab until his retirement in 1991. Paul appreciated the outdoors, hunting, fishing, working in the yard and golfing. He enjoyed working in the shop and cooking. For many years, Paul baked dozens of cookies for the Grace Episcopal Church Christmas Cookie Walk. Paul was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Moose Club, McHarrie's Legacy, and the Woodworking Assoc., "Sawdust and Woodchips". Paul is predeceased by his parents, wife, M. Lynn Wilder Cooney in 2004, siblings, James Cooney and Margaret Yost. Paul is survived by his daughter, Cathy Cooney (Stephen) Chirello; step-sons, Mike (Nora), Mark, and Peter (Kim) Wilder; grandchildren, Caitlin (Jeff) Besio, Mary Chirello, Danielle (Michael) Mattessich, Isaac Wilder, and Mallory (Hans) Wilder; 4 great-grandchildren; brothers, Robert (Roberta), Patrick (Bonnie), John (Jane), Timothy (Charlie); and sister, Carol (Basil) Yurchak. Funeral Service will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, October 6, at Grace Episcopal Church, 110 Oswego St, Baldwinsville, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grace Episcopal Church.
