Obituary of Mary Louise Dixon
Mary L Dixon, 76, passed peacefully on July 16, 2021 surrounded by her two loving daughters. Born on May 27, 1945 to Marjorie and Arthur Mowins; Mary was a resident of Baldwinsville, NY her entire life. She attended SUNY Oswego where she obtained her Bachelors in Elementary Education. She began her teaching career at Palmer Elementary School where she met her husband, Walter E. Dixon. They were married for almost 22 years before the passing of Walter in 1992. During their marriage Mary had transferred to McNamara Elementary School where she spent the majority of her career teaching 5th grade. She was nominated by her students for the Who's Who Among America's Teachers, 2000. She retired from teaching in 2003 with 37 years of service to the Baldwinsville School District.
Mary's entire world was her two daughters and she enjoyed any opportunity she had to be with them. Her other passions included spending time with her grand-dog Duke, visiting with her great-goddaughters LJ & Em, traveling (she had visited 49 states and several countries), baking cookies for past students at Halloween, camping, watching Syracuse Basketball, reading and gardening with neighbors. Mary is survived by her two daughters, Stephanie Dixon who resides in Iowa, Heather (Alex) Dixon-Colwell who reside in Liverpool, and her brother Michael (Elsie) Mowins. She was predeceased by a sister Kathleen and a brother Arthur.
A visitation celebrating her life will be held at Falardeau Funeral Home in Baldwinsville on Saturday July 31st from 1 – 4pm. Friends and family wishing to honor Mary are invited to send flowers to the visitation or a donation can be made to the Mahaska Serenity House, 630 N 12th St, Oskaloosa, IA 52577.
